NOUN

  • A  noun is a part of speech which is used to classify a person,  bird,  animal,  thing,  quality,  place, situation, action or quality.

Identification of nouns

  1. PROPER NOUN :
  •  Proper noun signifies a specific place, thing or person.

 Example:

1.Priya is painting.

2.Raj has gone to the market with his friend Pankaj.

2. COMMOM NOUN :

  • Common noun is headed by a specific articles which represents all or the same group or class.

Example:

  1. The girl is sitting over there.
  2. This man broke the mirror.

3. MATERIAL NOUN :

  • Material noun indicates a substance or a material or an ingredient of a compound.

 Example:

 1. She purchased a cotton dress.

 2. Drinking water in glass is good for health.

  1. COLLECTIVE NOUN :
  • A collective noun refers to a collection of things or person considered as a unit.

Example :

 A group of  dancers.

Soldiers of defense force.

5.ABSTRACT NOUN :

  • Abstract noun denote qualities, ideas, feelings, occasions, states etc. that  do not have any physical     

Example :

I fear the darkness.

These certificates are for heroism.

 

Modern distribution of nouns

These are two types :

  1. COUNTABLE NOUN :
  • Countable noun has both singular and plural form.

 Example :

A parrot, two parrot.

Eating an apple/ two apples a day is good for you.

 

  1. UNCOUNTABLE NOUN :
  • Uncountable noun cannot be counted.

Example:

Rice, coffee

Eating rice is good for health.

The balloon was filled with air.
